Sophie is still hiding. The tiny, dark cellar where she's hidden stinks. The people who saved her from the Polish police are tyrants. They toss food into the cellar as if the inhabitants are animals. They snarl commands and deny them light. Wanda visited a few times but only once was Sophie allowed to see her. Sophie knows about the Hotel Polski.
