She came from a Jewish family from a small town in the eastern Borderlands (kresy). When she was 16 she fell in love with a Polish man, left with him for Warsaw, got baptised and married him. During the war she was already a widow. She worked as a clerk in the Social Security Institution (ZUS), she had a daughter and a son. Several people hid in her three-room flat in Zoliborz: Mr and Mrs Wyszewianski, temporarily their son Leon, Krysia - Michal's, their younger son's, wife, and Nina Szereszewska. For hiding them Emilia did not take any special charge, only a sum for which she could feed herself and her children. She looked after food and safety of the hiding, she also tried to cheer them up.
