After the brake of war, he and his family fled to Vilno. From Vilno they planned to reach Yokohama in Japan, and from there take a boat to the United States. Unfortunately, they had to move back into the German sector. So they settled in the countryside, near the town of Sadowne, where they passed as exemplary Catholics. His son and wife are shot by the Gestapo. He survives the war. He marries a Gentile woman.
