Before the war he lived in Lvov, so he could speak fluent German. Thanks to his surname and speech he passed everywhere as a Volksdeutsch. For the Germans a Jew remained a Jew even if he changed his religion. That is why Lieberbauer moved to the countryside where he felt relatively safe. He was taken by the Gestapo. Probably killed.
