  • A bid transport of coal arrived, unloading it took a long time, we were coming back to the ghetto together. We came across two drunk SS-Men, Zig-zag was one of them. They beat us up with crops. Zig-zag shouted to us: intellectuals step out! After a moment of hesitation seven men stepped out, they were sure that they would be shot on the spot. The SS-men ordered them to escort the group to the ghetto and ordered everybody to sing merrily to celebrate the New Year's Eve.
