Before the war he lived with his parents and siblings in Praga, his father was a shoemaker. He was in 5th class at school. In ghetto they lived in a basement with nothing to live on. His older brother for a short time worked in a work detail till it was liquidated. They starved. His mother died. His father sent him and his younger brother to a half-boarding house where they were given food, learned and worked.
