before the war he lived in Warsaw, his father was a painter-businessman, mother had a shop, brothers a dressmaker's salon; they did very well, every year they went to a summer resort; in September 1939 the flat and shop were burnt; father did not earn, he died of typhus in 1941; the family was taken into quarantine, where two brothers of the boy died; Beniek survived thanks to the head of day-care room, where he had enrolled before and who sent him food to the quarantine; after leaving the quarantine he continues to go to half-boarding house at Nowolipki Street No. 25
