Before the war he was a clerk in the Ministry of Military Affairs. He was interested in photography and when, at the end of 1939, Jewish companies in the city centre (Srodmiescie) were liquidated, he accepted proposal of an owner of a shop with artistic photographs and took over the shop. He soon became wealthy. He fulfilled honestly the terms of the contract with the former owner, sending monthly participation in the profit to the ghetto. The Chaskielewicz family ask him for help, preparing to escape from the ghetto. At his flat, in Marszalkowska Street, elderly Mr and Mrs Chaskielewicz live for a few days. Later, he finds a place to live for the whole family (three of them) and helps them financially.
